1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose to watch the videos entitled “Andy Warhol: Images of an Image” and “The Power of Art: Rothko.” I wanted to explore more of Andy Warhols’ work and know more about him as an artist. I also was not familiar with who Rothko was and wanted to learn about who the artist was as well as get the opportunity to explore his work.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the video “Andy Warhol: Images of an Image” I learned that Andy Warhol did not want to be an artist at first. I also learned that he painted many images of Marilyn Monroe, which was a major reason that he became famous. In the video “The Power of Art: Rothko, I learned that in the art world, he is identified as an abstract expressionist. I also learned that Rothko wanted his paintings to give off an intimate and personal feeling this way people could feel more connected to his work.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings because they cover material that is in the text and also expand on information that is presented.The videos visualize information that is in the text, which helps to give me a better understanding on artists and their work. The videos also highlight some of the key factors about artwork that is expressed in the text as well.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I enjoyed watching both videos. Although they were in fact lengthy, I was able to easily follow along and grasp the ideas that were being expressed.The information presented tied in very well with the ideas expressed in the text. I was able to get a great deal of information about artists and their work, which I really loved.
