1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose to watch the videos “The Impact of Cubism” and “The Mystical North: Spanish Art from the 19th Century to the Present.” I selected these videos because I have not heard of nor explored these topics before and wanted to do so.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the video entitled “The impact of Cubism” I was informed that cubism is a large painting that is composed of geometric shapes to create the piece. Cubism is from the 20th century of the art period. I also learned that Pablo Picasso inspired and served as a mentor for the artist Gris. In the video “The Mystical North: Spanish Art from the 19th Century to the Present” I learned that most of Pablo Picassos’ work represented in an abstract cubist way. I also learned that when the artist Goya passed away, artists, specifically painters began to create art pieces that focused on happiness.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings in the text because they both highlight various pieces of artwork and the time periods that they were from. The video was able to bring information that was presented in the text alive by adding the visuals.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I thought the videos were very insightful and informed me about information that was not in the reading. I was also able to get a visual of the things that were discussed in the text. I loved the fact that I was able to learn more about various pieces of artworks. With the information expressed in the videos, I was able to go on an art journey and learn about information that will allow me to appreciate art even more now.
